Police resorted to baton charge to disperse dozens of supporters of a local government candidate following his arrest. Gujranwala police had arrested Muhammad Javed for violating the Election Commission of Pakistan’s code of conduct. Soon after his arrest, dozens of supporters gathered in front of the police station and chanted slogans against the police. They pelted stones at the gate and clashed with policemen. SHO Malik Irfan said the protestors had demanded Javed’s release. He said police had resorted to baton charge to break the protest. He said several policemen were injured in the fray.
