MULTAN:

A Bahauddin Zakariya University student was killed after he was run over by a varsity bus neat Mondhay Wala Pul at Nawabpur Road on Friday.

Muhammad Aqib, 15, was going to the BZU on his motorbike when he was hit by the bus.

Later, the family of the deceased staged a protest demonstration. Some of the protesters smashed the front screen of the bus in protest.

They put the body of the deceased on the road and blocked it for traffic. The bus driver, Noor Muhammad, tried to flee but he was caught by a citizen and handed over to police.

Talking to newsmen, BZU Transport Committee Chairman Muhammad Nazim said disciplinary action would be taken against the driver.

He said the driver had been suspended from service and a committee had been constituted to hold an inquiry.

He said the driver had been associated with the varsity for many years.

“We have written a letter to the district administration asking for a traffic warden on the road but no traffic official was present at the time of the incident,” he said. He said the road was often clogged with traffic during rush hours.

“However, if the driver is found responsible for the accident, his services will be terminated,” Nazim added.
