LAHORE:

Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought the assistance of the attorney general and advocate general with regard to whether a government employee could propose or second a candidate contesting local government elections in connection with an aspiring councilor’s petition. The petitioner told the court that his opponent’s proposer and seconder were government employees. His counsel said the law was devoid of any qualification regarding proposers and seconders. He posited the argument that his client’s opponent could be influenced by his peoposer and seconder in the event of him emerging victorious. The counsel requested the court to declare the respondent’s candidature null and void. Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan directed the attorney general and advocate general to assist the court on the point raised by the petitioner.
