A man who had served as an accomplice to local militants and was later sentenced by security forces was gunned down by unidentified people in Kabal tehsil of Swat on Sunday.
According to Akbar Rahman, an official of Kabal police, the incident occurred around 2am when assailants barged into the house of Akhtar Ali and shot him dead. While talking to The Express Tribune, Rahman said three men barged inside Ali’s house and opened fire, killing him on the spot.
“Due to his alliance with local militants, Ali was detained by security forces after a military operation in Swat and released later,” Rahman explained. “I am not sure who my husband’s killers were but I am sure they were not from this region,” said Nasreen Bibi.
“The manner in which Ali was killed is exactly like the one used to kill village defence committee members in Swat,” said another official, requesting anonymity. He was referring to how Ali was killed from point blank range.
