Makkah Colony: Voters demand end to gas shortage

LAHORE:

In Union Council 205, candidates of both the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have promised to end gas shortage during winter months.

The union council comprises Makkah Colony and areas along Baloch Road. There are 10,000 registered voters in the area.

Residents of Makkah Colony have announced they will vote for a candidate who can assure them that there shall be no gas loadshedding during winter months.

Muhammad Anwar, a resident of Makkah Colony, says that the people of the colony face a severe gas shortage in winter months. “Several political leaders promised to resolve the problem over the years, but none of them has delivered on the promise. This time, all of us have decided to vote for a candidate who will assure us that he will resolve the problem,” he says.

Shamim Aslam, another resident, says people face a lot of problems in the winter season while preparing food in the evening. PML-N’s Malik Liaquat Ali is running for chairman and Mian Muhammad Nadeem for vice chairman. PTI’s Jamshaid Niaz is in the run for chairman and Aftab Zafar for vice chairman.

Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) candidates have withdrawn in favour of the PML-N man.

Ali says he has assured the public of the provision of gas. “We will take concrete measurers on being elected. Efforts will also be made for providing clean water,” he says.

He thanked the JUI-F for its support. Niaz says that the gas problem will be resolved.
