RAWALPINDI: A young boy died in a Rawalpindi hospital on Sunday after suffering from dengue fever. This takes the total number of deaths caused by the dengue virus in the city to at least three; with around 2,000 confirmed patients.

According to health officials, 14-year-old Muhammad Saad, a resident of Sangjani, was under treatment at Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and passed away on Sunday.

HFH Medical Superintendent Raja Shafiq Sarwar said Saad was brought to the hospital in critical condition. Talking to APP, EDO Health Arshad Ansari said the health department has received more than 1,890 dengue cases in all allied hospitals, including Benazir Bhutto Hospital, HFH and District Headquarter Hospital.

He said dengue can only be eliminated with coordinated and combined efforts by all.

He further shared that anti- dengue activities should be strengthened and coordinated by focusing on union councils from where dengue cases are being reported.

Of the 46 union councils of Rawal Town, 20 have been completely fogged and the remaining will be completed soon, he shared.
