PIA: Two new aircraft to join fleet

With the induction of these aircraft, PIA’s fleet strength will increase to 37

KARACHI:
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is to get two state-of-the-art fuel efficient aircraft by next week. The aircraft, Airbus A320 and Boeing 777-200ER, are being obtained on lease, as a part of PIA’s fleet enhancement programme. With the induction of these aircraft, PIA’s fleet strength will increase to 37. “Chairman PIA, Nasser Jaffer, has directed relevant officials to have the two planes put into operation as soon as possible,” said a PIA spokesman. “Under the guidance of Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Aviation, Shujaat Azeem, and in accordance with Prime Minister’s vision, PIA, for the first time in history, has inducted 14 airplanes in one year’s time; as the airline was facing severe capacity constraints,” he added. “The induction of these planes has not only enabled PIA to maintain its flight schedule and improve flight punctuality but has also helped it increase frequency of its flights on profitable routes.”
