The Islamabad administration on Thursday issued a notification imposing Section 144 in the city, banning pillion riding today (Friday), an official said.
“It has been observed that certain riders are likely to resort to the violent act of sabotage aimed at disrupting peace in the city, therefore, the administration has banned pillion riding in the capital for one day,” the notification issued by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Cap (retd) Mushtaq Ahmed states.
The main Muharram procession will start from the Markazi Imambargah Isna Ashri Sector G-6/2 and will conclude at the same destination after passing through its designated routes.
Meanwhile, the police have decided to utilise aerial surveillance during processions, said a police spokesman. The spokesman said that the troops will be on standby in case of any untoward incident. Over 6,000 police officers will be on duty around the procession. According to the plan, the activities of people put under surveillance via the fourth schedule will be strictly monitored.
All SDPOs and SHOs have been directed to launch search operations while combing slum areas, and also to beef up security at all city entry points.
IGP Tahir Alam Khan has directed police officers to remain in close coordination. He also directed the Islamabad Traffic Police to ensure arrangements for smooth traffic flow.
