Man sentenced to 14 years in jail

KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Tuesday an accused to 14 years in jail after convicting him of possessing explosive material.

Amjad Shah was found guilty of carrying a hand grenade when arrested from Kharadar in July last year. He was tried for more than a year as the court recorded testimonies and scrutinised evidence against him.

The ATC-VI judge, Abdul Naeem Memon, who conducted the trial after receiving the case from another court, pronounced the verdict that the prosecution proved the case against the accused successfully and it was established beyond any shadow of doubt that he committed the offence.

Besides awarding the punishment, the judge also ordered confiscation of movable and immovable properties belonging to the convict.

The case against him was registered under sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act, read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, at Kharadar police station.
