Recognising talent: Wagma given Rs200,000 for treatment

Amjad said all efforts will be made to help all artists who are in need

PESHAWAR: Adviser to Chief Minister on Sports, Culture, Tourism and Museums Amjad Afridi visited the ailing Pashto singer Wagma at Lady Reading Hospital and gave her a cheque of Rs200,000 to pay for her medical treatment. “Her services for our culture are not hidden from anyone,” Amjad said while talking to the media on Monday. “We will provide all financial support for her treatment and wish her a speedy recovery.” Wagma has been suffering from stomach cancer for a while now and was admitted to Lady Reading Hospital after her condition deteriorated. She is also suffering from diabetes and has other health complications. Amjad said all efforts will be made to help all artists who are in need. More than 100 artists of the province will be provided with financial relief on Tuesday (today), he said. During the visit to the hospital, other government officials, including Director for Culture Mehmood Khan and Director for Archaeology Abdul Samad were also present.
