AIOU initiative: PhD programme for teachers to be launched

Programme aimed to help meet the requirement for qualified teachers.

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has planned to launch a PhD programme for faculty members of different universities of the country to meet the requirement of qualified teachers. AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir Sangi said that such a programme is being launched for the first time in the country.

Addressing the students of Paramount Education Society, who visited the varsity, said that AIOU is paving the way to spread education facilities across the country, especially in rural and far flung areas, through technological means. He said that the PhD programme will not only save wastage of public money but will also meet the deficiency of qualified teachers  in the country.

He said that teachers of international repute will be engaged in this programme through video conferencing. Ateequr Rehman of Paramount Education Society on the occasion said that Dr Sangi is doing a tremendous job for the last two decades for which he has been awarded the Best Teacher award by the government.
