Arrangements: ‘Security plan finalised for local govt polls’

3,500 polling stations will be set up in Lahore

LAHORE: Lahore police have finalised a plan to provide security to 3,500 polling stations to be set up at 1,700 buildings for the upcoming local government elections, CCPO Amin Wains said on Saturday during a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

The CCPO said under Lahore police’s security plan, six divisions of Lahore had been divided into 12 components. A team of 10 to 12 constables led by a sub inspector would be deployed at each union council. There are 274 union councils in the city.

Wains said the army and Rangers would also be providing security for the elections. A control room would be set up for coordination at divisional level. Focal persons of all political parties would be part of the facility, the CCPO said.

Wains said police’s performance had been satisfactory during the recent by-elections in NA 122 and PP 147. MNA Shafqat Mehmood, MPA Mian Aslam Iqbal, Yasmin Rashid, Mehar Wajid, Operations DIG Haider Ashraf, SSP Sohail Akhtar Sukhera, SSP Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, CIA SSP Umer Virk and SSP Athar Ismail were also present.
