ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) hailed the agreement between Pakistan and Russia for the construction of a 1,100-kilometre pipeline to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Karachi to Lahore. “The pipeline will transport 12.4 billion cubic feet (BCF) per annum, half of which will be used to generate 3,600 megawatt (MW) electricity while the rest will help run CNG, fertiliser and industrial sectors in Punjab uninterruptedly,” said Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, chairman of the APCNGA Supreme Council. Paracha said the agreement would change the energy landscape of the country. However, he added that the construction of two more LNG terminals with 1,000bcf capacity was necessary to make the project a success. He said the distribution of gas should be improved by laying new pipelines and distribution and transmission losses should be minimised.
