HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed briefed the chief minister about various initiatives for the development of higher education in the region, including offering a number of different scholarship and research and development opportunities for faculty members, researchers and students, particularly those who cannot afford higher education on their own expense.

The establishment of a new university in Skardu and sub-campuses of the Karakoram International University (KIU) in different districts of G-B was also discussed.

The chief minister appreciated HEC for bringing a much-needed change due to its initiatives during the past decade. He assured complete support of the G-B government for further developing higher education in the region.

Addressing the chief minister’s delegation, Ahmed said “We believe that significance of youth in any society cannot be undermined therefore every possible step is being taken to facilitate our youth. Like other regions of the country, we are also focusing on developing higher education opportunities across Gilgit-Baltistan”.
