Govt issues notification to demote bureaucrats

Express April 29, 2010

ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has issued a notification of demotion to 54 bureaucrats, after the Supreme Court declared their promotions null and void.

These 54 bureaucrats were promoted to Grade-22 by the prime minister on September 4, 2009, while ignoring at least another 173 bureaucrats. Those ignored in the promotions moved the Supreme Court, pleading that injustice had been done to them.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court set aside their promotions. The court ruled that they will not be entitled to claim any benefits, perks and privileges if they have availed any on account of promotion.

The bureaucrats have now been  relegated to the positions they were enjoying before their promotions.
