Wanted militant killed in shoot-out

Adaadullah also known as Farooq Alam had a Rs2 million bounty on his head

MARDAN: Police killed a wanted militant who had a Rs2 million bounty on his head in a shoot-out in Dagar Kalay, Mardan Thursday night.

Adaadullah also known as Farooq Alam was in Dagar Kalay within the limits of Chora police station when authorities received a tip off, said DSP Rural Fazal Wahid, whiling talking to the media on Friday.

Wahid said the police surrounded Alam's hideout. He added when suspected militants inside realised they were surrounded, they opened fire on the police. Officers retaliated and the shoot-out continued for some time.

According to the DSP, Alam was killed in the exchange of fire and his accomplices managed to flee. Police also recovered a hand grenade and an AK-47 from the dead militant's possession.

Wahid said the government had earlier announced head money worth Rs2 million for Alam's arrest. Alam was wanted by several police stations in multiple cases. Police handed his body over to his family Friday morning.
