Clinic owner receives threatening letter

Police sources said it seems the letter was sent by locals who know that Iqbal business is a huge success in the city

The owner of local clinic has received a threatening letter from an alleged extortionist asking him to pay Rs0.5 million, said police on Wednesday.

Dr Wajid Iqbal, owner of Wajid Ultra Sound and Xray, situated in Blue Area, filed a complaint with the Kohsar police requesting them to register a case against the extortionist.

The complainant in his application said on October 2 he received a letter at his clinic along with a bullet in which the extortionist demanded him to pay the amount. He informed police that the extortionist threatened to kill him and his family if he tries to inform the police.

The complainant said the letter was handed over to him by a waiter working in a restaurant nearby.  According to Iqbal, the waiter picked up the letter from outside the clinic’s wall and dropped it at the clinic’s reception which was addressed to Dr Shahnaz, Iqbal’s wife, said a police officer close to the investigation.

IO Abdur Razak said police have arrested a suspect, identified as Iftikhar a resident of Mandi Bahauddin. However, he refused to share further information claiming it will impact the investigation.

On the other hand, sources said at least ten applications were filed in the jurisdiction of the Koshar Police Station against extortion since January this year. However, police have failed to arrest any suspects.
