Rawalpindi traffic police are said to have arrested 107 professional beggars from key areas of the city in September. According to a statement issued on Sunday, Chief Traffic Officer Shoaib Khurram Janbaz said city traffic police was attempting to eliminate street begging from the city. As many as 107 beggars were arrested last month, he said, adding that concerted efforts should be made by police and the administration to eliminate the practice. He said special squads of city traffic police in the Rawal and Potohar regions remain on duty on city roads for this purpose. As many as 41 children had been handed over to the Child Protection Bureau, he added.
