Huge campaign: Over 1m children to be given polio drops

A new phase of the anti-polio campaign in 80 union councils of Karachi is being launched from October 7, targeting 1,016,499 children under the age of five.


A total of 2,795 mobile teams will participate in the drive against the crippling disease. During the campaign, 153,548 children in district Central, 219,143 children in district Malir, 472,927 children in district West, 7,965 children in district South, 55,719 children in district East, while 107,197 children in district Korangi will be administered polio drops.


During a meeting on the polio drive at his office on Thursday, provincial health minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that after completing the drive in the provincial capital, a similar three-day campaign will be launched on October 12 for 14 districts.


A total of 4,053,238 children in 644 UCs of 14 districts, including Hyderabad, Larkana, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Naushero Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur and Kambar will be targeted in the anti-polio drive.
