Jansher appointed advisor to PSF president

Squash great plans to groom four upcoming players in Peshawar

KARACHI: Squash legend Jansher Khan has been appointed as an advisor to Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) President Air Marshall Sohail Aman Khan.

Jansher had called on the PSF president at the Air Headquarters in Islamabad on Thursday to discuss plans for the revival of squash’s former glory in the country. Senior PSF Vice President Air Vice Marshal Syed Razi Nawab was also present
at the meeting, during which Jansher was offered the post.

According to PSF officials, the eight-time world champion’s duties would include overseeing the PAF Squash Academy in Peshawar as well, where efforts would be put in for bringing the academy’s training strategy in line with the Pakistan National Squash Academy in Islamabad.

Jansher also offered to train four upcoming players from Peshawar with the help of suitable trainers, and vowed to use his personal influence at the national and international levels for the game’s promotion.

“Jahangir has been working in Karachi and Gogi Alauddin is in Lahore, so I’ll work in Peshawar, and hopefully we will be able to produce top quality players,” Jansher told The Express Tribune.

“We all want to see Pakistan dominate squash again, and for that I’ll pick four players along with two trainers, whose expenses will be borne by the PSF,” he said. “The trainers and I will personally compete with those players so that they can improve quickly.”

During the meeting it was also discussed that the Performance Evaluation Committee, headed by Jahangir, would have a meeting before the upcoming Pakistan International Squash Tournament in November to review the progress of the Pakistan National Squash Academy.

Meanwhile, PSF President Aman thanked Jansher for joining the federation and voiced his hopes for a successful outcome of the strategy for bringing squash legends on board for improving the sagging standards of the game in the country.
