ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan for his reaction to the Supreme Court’s verdict staying by-elections in NA-154 Lodhran.

Addressing a news conference flanked by other party leaders, Senator Rashid said Imran Khan is all praise for the judiciary when judgments are delivered in his favour and criticises them when delivered against him. Earlier, Imran Khan while addressing a press conference said that the apex court had issued a stay order just 12 days ahead of the by-election, adding, “I will not comment on the SC order,” while shifting burden on ruling party by saying, “It has a tradition to hide behind stay orders.” “You [the PML-N] had said to face the PTI in the court of people [elections] but why are you running now?” he questioned.

Senator Rashid said that remarks of the PTI leader about the judgment amount to contempt of court.

He stated that PML-N’s candidate prayed to the court that his degree has been verified by the HEC and is genuine. He, therefore, sought permission to participate in the elections.

Replying to Imran Khan, the information minister said the court asked the lawyer of PTI’s leader Jehangir Tareen to advance arguments so that proceedings of the case could begin instantly and he requested the court to give a new date for hearing of the case.

PTI is now avoiding the court proceedings, he claimed, adding that the court was left with no option but to grant a stay.
