Woman killed in crossfire

Locals accuse Levies personnel of opening indiscriminate fire.

QUETTA: A woman was killed and four others injured in crossfire between bandits and Levies personnel on the RCD Highway near Kalat on Tuesday.

A Karachi-bound passenger coach was on its way when a group of bandits intercepted it near Kalat and held all passengers hostage at gun point. The armed men looted cash and valuables. However, upon receiving information, Levies personnel reached the site and there was exchange of fire. A woman passenger was hit by bullets and died on the spot while the robbers managed to escape.

Transporters blocked the highway for several hours to protest an increase in such incidents and accused Levies personnel of opening fire on a passenger coach.

Three other passenger coaches were looted near Tank area of Surab. The coaches were travelling from Quetta to Panjgur when armed men intercepted at gun point and looted all the valuables and cash from passengers.
