Two policemen ‘caught red-handed’

KARACHI:

Paramilitary troops caught two policemen while they were robbing citizens during snap-checking in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Wednesday.

This is the first such incident in which the Rangers caught the policemen red-handed while looting citizens in the name of snap-checking. The officers, identified as Shah Muhammad and Abdul Ghani, were later handed over to the police for further legal action. They were also accused of taking bribes from the citizens during snap-checking in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block-15.

The Rangers took action against the two officers upon a citizen’s complaint, Shahid Siddiq, who alleged that the two policeman forcibly took his money. Siddiq claimed that the accused policemen snatched Rs85,000 from him, after he refused to pay them bribe, which forced him to take the help of the Rangers. A case was registered against them and further investigation was initiated.



Separately, Malir district police claimed the arrest of an alleged target killer during a raid in Malir. The suspect was identified as Ali Nawaz. During a press conference, SSP Shaikh said that the accused belonged to the Sohail Dada group and operated from various parts of Malir. SSP added that the accused was involved in over 50 cases of target killings, extortion and the attack at the Malir City police station. The provincial government had announced Rs1 million reward money on his arrest. A case was registered while further investigation was underway, SSP said.
