The tamasha behind Deepika and Ranbir’s romantic reunion
Director Imtiaz Ali is convinced he has never worked with actors as good as them
MUMBAI:
Tamasha director Imtiaz Ali claims that he has not worked with actors as good as Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone and admitted that their talent was a learning experience for him.
“It was really good. It’s actually a learning experience for me when you work with good actors. I’ve worked with Ranbir and Deepika before. And for each scene, the way I envisioned the scene, it always turned out to be different than that. And it’s different because of their talent. I’m convinced that I’ve never worked with actors as good as them,” said Ali to queries about the experience of working with Ranbir and Deepika at the trailer launch, of Tamasha in Mumbai.
He had earlier said he “disliked them as actors” and thought they “don’t possess any merit as actors”. Ranbir, Deepika, producer Sajid Nadiawala and presenter Siddharth Roy Kapur were also present.

The film had generated tremendous buzz from the time shooting began, and it got heightened with the release of the first look of the film few days back. The blend of light-hearted and intense romance against the backdrop of scenic locales made it go viral on social media.
Ali’s last few films, Highway and Rockstar, were critically acclaimed, bagging numerous awards and collecting decent numbers. He denied, however, that this put more pressure on him.
“There is absolutely no pressure. You don’t remember what the previous film was and how well it had worked. The only thing on your mind is that the producers get convinced and take you to Corsica. That’s the kind of tension that you’re stuck with. I don’t worry about the previous films once they are over; it’s always the excitement for the new one.”
After watching Deepika’s growth as an actor, Ranbir says he drew inspiration from her and learnt a lot from her while working together in the film that reunites them after their blockbuster Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
“I learnt a lot working with Deepika. We did our second film together, Bachna Ae Haseeno and then we did Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which was a big hit. To see her grow as an actor and to this extent, was really heart-warming, encouraging and really inspiring for me,” he said at the trailer launch of Tamasha.
Tamasha is Deepika and Ranbir’s second movie with director Imtiaz Ali following the Piku actors’s outing in 2009 rom-com Love Aaj Kal and the Roy star’s stint as a musician in 2011’s Rockstar.
Tamasha, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, is slated to release on November 27.
