QUETTA: At least six Pakistani nationals were executed on Tuesday by Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan.

Balochistan Levies’ Director General Captain Tariq Zehri told The Express Tribune that the executions took place inside Afghan territory.

Sources added that the six Pakistani men were apparently dacoits, who were seized by Taliban militants in Pakistan and shifted to Afghanistan.

“These men hailed from Nushki and Taftan districts,” a Levies official based in Nokundi told The Express Tribune by phone. Sources said the Taliban have also released a video showing the execution of the Pakistani men. The victims were identified as Jameel, Sarwar, Shah Murad, Basit, Ghani and Kutab Khan. Bodies of the victims were later handed over to tribal elders.

Captain Zehri said his force has initiated investigation into the incident and the claims that the slain men were dacoits.
