ISLAMABAD: The National Child Protection Centre (NCPC) organised a special ceremony on Monday for street children to commemorate the International Peace Day.

The street children presented speeches, songs and a special tableau on “Bara Dushman Bana Phirta Ha Woh Jo Bachon say Darta ha” with a resolve to fight terrorism fearlessly.

Almost 76 children enrolled in the NCPC non-formal school including 50 boys and 26 girls, who were initially involved in beggary or selling trivial things at traffic signals, participated in the ceremony.

Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights Joint Secretary Humaira Azam Khan asked the street children to work hard and play their role in the development of the country.

She appreciated the confidence of the children and urged them to use it in a positive manner.

NCPC Director Muhammad Yousaf Shah said that when they first arrived at the centre, most of them were without shoes and their condition was pitiable.
