MANSEHRA/ PESHAWAR/ MARDAN: The results for BA and BSc programmes announced on Monday have once again seen women perform better than men, at least in Peshawar and Mardan.

“I would focus on continuing with my education and pursuing a teaching career,” Sumbul Naz, a BSc student from Jinnah College for Women who got the highest marks, told The Express Tribune at a ceremony held at University of Peshawar to announce the results. On the occasion University of Peshawar Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan announced free education for the top three position holders. He said they have abolished the third division system and from now on those who get marks in the category would be considered as having failed.

Scores

In Peshawar, the exams were held under the auspices of University of Peshawar. The first three positions in the city were clinched by students of Jinnah College for Women and Fazaia Degree College Peshawar Cantt.

Naz, who got 511 marks out of 550, was followed by Noreen Amin, another BSc student of the same institute who got 507 marks. Madeeha Gul of Fazaia Degree College bagged the third position. In the BA programme, Masooma Zahra of FG Degree College for Women, Peshawar Cantt got 439 marks while Muhammad Asad Khan Akhunzada of Edwards College obtained 422 marks, followed by Maheeha Hussain of Jinnah College for Women who secured 417 marks.

In Mardan, the exams were held under the auspices of Abdul Wali Khan University. The controller of examinations of the university said 37% students were successful.  Maryam topped the exams in the district by getting 463 out of 550. She was followed by Anam Nawaz and Sahiba Qazi. All the three women are students of BSc from Government Post Graduate College for Women.

The controller examinations at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan said the detailed marks certificate will be delivered to the respective colleges by September 28.

Aiming for stars

Amin of Jinnah College for Women, who got the second position, has big plans. Although she hails from a low-income background, financial constraints do not seem to get in the way of her becoming a professor. “Three of my daughters are married while the other three are studying and are successful in their respective fields of education,” Noreen’s father told The Express Tribune.  He is a lab assistant but does not hesitate to spend most of his income on his daughters’ education.

BCom results

Hazara University announced the results of BCom programme for 2015. “A total of 1,947 students appeared in the exam and 639 students passed,” said Controller of Examinations Professor Zoq Akhtar.
