In Court: Non-bailable warrants issued for officer

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued on Saturday non-bailable warrants for the arrest of an assistant jail superintendent, Abdul Khaliq, for failing to appear to record his statement in a jailor’s killing case. The warrants were issued after Khalid did not appear before the ATC-VI. In June, 2010, the then assistant jail superintendent, Ishaq Meo, was shot dead by some assailants near Sharae Quaideen bridge when he was returning home from prison. The police held three suspects affiliated with a political party for their involvement in the murder. However, their trial has been lingering due to the slow pace of recording statements and testimonies. ATC judge Abdul Naeem Memon issued the warrants and directed the senior officials concerned to produce him before the court at the next hearing.
