KARACHI: Seventy Pakistani prisoners including 52 fishermen crossed the Wagah border back in to Pakistan after Indian authorities released them on Tuesday.

The prisoners were handed over to Rangers officials at the border. The released people also included two women.

The Fisherman’s Co-operative Society (FCS) welcomed the released fishermen at the border. FCS said the prisoners had been provided with food and other necessities by FCS, including arranging for their transport to Karachi.

The imprisonment and release of fishermen from both sides of the border has been regularly taking place over the last few months. However, it often takes months for the release of such prisoners.

Earlier this month, 61 fishermen were freed by the Indian government.
