BAHAWALPUR: During the past eight months, 6,557 suspects have been arrested in crackdowns against drugs and illegal weapons, DPO Sarfraz Ahmad Falki said on Thursday. “In the last eight months, Bahawalpur police registered 358 cases against suspects carrying illegal weapons. Four AK-47s, 28 rifles, 55 shotguns, 247 revolver and 19,881 were seized from the accused,” he said. He said that 702 suspects were arrested during crackdowns against drug dealers.“We seized 1.7kgs of opium, 80kgs hashish, 0.8kg heroin and 20,844 litres liquor during the crackdown,” he said. He said that during the period, 127 murder suspects arrested. “Police also sent the challans of 54 rape suspects to court. Around 182 robbery suspects were arrested,” he said.
