ISLAMABAD:
The recent Peshawar blast was a sad incident of terrorism yet again when four policemen were killed. On the one hand we have the role of the police being sabotaged by a series of videos that circulated in the media and on the other hand we have these brave men as our first line of defence against any attack on the civilian population. We need to stand shoulder to shoulder with these policemen and extend all our support to them.

Agreed! While corruption may be rampant in the police force, is anyone really surprised? Compared to their colleagues who serve in the Army the police get a very raw deal. They have to put up with societal disdain, a lack of respect and a politicized bureaucracy. It must be an awful demotivating spiral to work in. As a society we must value those who uphold the law. While we trip over ourselves to sing the praises of those who protect out borders (when they are not politiking) it is those who uphold the law that deserve equal if not greater support.
