PESHAWAR:

A policeman and two criminals were killed while three other cops were injured during an exchange of fire on Sufaid Dheri Road within the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara police station on Friday night.

The encounter took place when a police mobile intercepted three suspicious men during routine patrol. When they were asked to surrender themselves to the police, they opened fire, leaving ASI Jamal Shah, head constable Tahir, driver Ajmal and constable Shahzad injured. Two assailants were killed while the third managed to escape in an injured condition.

The injured policemen were rushed to the hospital where Ajmal succumbed to his injuries early on Saturday morning. “One of the dead has been identified as Saifullah, a resident of Pawaka. They were criminals,” said a Pishtakhara police official, adding a search operation was launched but the escapee could not be found.
