PESHAWAR: Action against those involved in the business of unhygienic edibles is in full swing across the city. As many as 20 people were arrested during raids conducted on at least eight slaughterhouses that were involved in the illegal trade of animal fat oil.

This was said by Peshawar DC Riaz Mehsud during a press conference on Friday. Mehsud said ADC Usama Warraich conducted raids on slaughterhouses on Ring Road near Chamkani and found oil being extracted from animal fat. “The unhygienic oil was being packed in tins to be supplied to Punjab,” said Mehsud. At least 200 tins were confiscated for sampling and the facilities were sealed.

Meanwhile, another team raided drugstores dealing in fake medicine. AC Altaf Hussain, along with drug inspectors Imran and Naeem, seized 0.1 million samples of fake medicines from shops in Namak Mandi. Separately, a team led by AC Mehmood Ahmad raided Jalil Kabab in Gulbahar and found the meat being prepared in animal fat oil in an extremely unhygienic environment. The owner of the restaurant was arrested and the place was sealed.

Meanwhile, the district administration has imposed Section 144 on opening cattle markets inside the city. Government teams also arrested 18 cattle smugglers. On the other hand, an inspection team of Parachinar political administration raided several bakeries and food outlets and sealed them for selling substandard food items.
