LAHORE: Justice Ejazul Hassan of Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned until October 16 the hearing of a petition against the Government College University (GCU) for allegedly refusing admission to a veiled girl. The judge summoned the lawyers of both sides for concluding arguments. Mehreen Shafiq has filed a petition saying that the GCU administration had refused her admission because she wore a scarf. “It is my right to wear the clothes of my choice,” she said. She said Article 25 of the Constitution protected the citizens’ fundamental rights. She requested the court to order action against the university’s administration. She said the GCU’s management should be ordered to grant her admission in line with the relevant rules.Malik Awais Khalild, counsel for the GCU, said the university had yet to issue the merit list for the department concerned. He declared Shafiq’s claims baseless.
