DERA GHAZI KHAN:

Scores of doctors and paramedical staff of Dera Ghazi Khan’s teaching hospital held a protest on Wednesday in solidarity with the doctors who were arrested in Islamabad for protesting against, what they said, were government’s plans to privatise the health sector. The protesters walked from the MS’s office to Hospital Chowk and held up placards with slogans against the government and the police.

Members of the Young Doctors’ Association, the Pakistan Medical Association and the Nursing Association, and paramedics participated in the protest. They said ‘privatisation’ of government hospitals would allow for rampant exploitation of the poor. The protesters threatened to go on strike if the government decided to go ahead with the plan. They also demanded the release of the doctors who were arrested.
