Cavalry Ground Shooting: Witnesses refuse to identify Kanju

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court adjourned until September 10 hearing of a murder case after two witnesses refused to identify Mustafa Kanju accused of killing a teenager on April 1. Sohail and Hussain told the court they had not seen Mustafa Kanju, the son of former state minister for foreign affairs Sadique Kanju, killing Zain. Earlier, Sohail Afzal, the complainant, too, had refused to identify the suspect. Afzal had told the court he did not know whether Mustafa Kanju was involved in the murder of his nephew. He said he had reached the crime scene 90 minutes after the killing. The counsel for the accused had informed the court that the victim’s family had reached a settlement with his clients. According to the prosecution, Kanju had been driving his car on April 1 when it hit another in Street-4 of Cavalry Ground. Following an argument with the passengers of the other vehicle, Kanju, allegedly intoxicated at the time, opened indiscriminate fire killing Zain, a passer-by. South Cantt police had registered an FIR against him, Saadullah, Saadat Ameen, Asif Zubair, Shehzad Iqbal, Sikandar Azam, Asif Rehman and Ikramullah.
