A woman was arrested for alleged cruelty to animals on Sunday.
A Saddar police spokesman said Muhammad Anwar, a resident of Pakpattan, had told them that his donkey went missing on Friday.
He said Anwar told police that he had informed his neighbours about it and they had formed several teams to look for the donkey.
Anwar told police that as he was passing by some houses at the periphery of the village, he found his donkey bound with ropes. He said a woman and two men were brutally beating his donkey.
“I tried to rescue my donkey from them but they beat me as well,” he told police in his complaint.
He said later neighbours intervened and helped him take his donkey to a public veterinary hospital for first aid.
Saddar police registered an FIR under Section 429 of the Pakistan Penal Code (mischief by killing or maiming cattle).
The SHO told The Express Tribune the woman had been arrested.
He said her husband and a cousin had managed to escape.
He said she had told police in her statement that the donkey’s bleating was disturbing her children who had returned from school.
