PESHAWAR:

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl will contact the Election Commission of Pakistan for the disqualification of its defecting councillors under the LG legislation.

The provincial leadership also sent a detailed report to party chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman about the party’s defeat in the recent elections for local government nazims of various districts. The party faced an embarrassing defeat despite winning maximum seats in many places.

In Chitral, JUI-F won an equal number of seats as Jamaat-e-Islami, and was negotiating with the party for the seat of district nazim. However, the negotiations failed as eight of JUI-F’s members voted for JI, resulting in the latter’s win for the district government. In Lakki Marwat, JUI-F won 27 seats and was in a position to form a government.

However, it suffered a defeat after four of its candidates voted for PTI, JUI-S, PPP and PML-N. As a result, PPP won the district nazim seat.
