Six women killed over ‘honour’, one over inheritance

Police say they are looking for the culprits

MULTAN/ FAISALABAD: Six women in Faisalabad and Pakpattan districts were killed for ‘honour’ and a woman was killed for demanding her share in inheritance on Wednesday and Thursday.

The police spokesperson said two sisters, a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old were shot dead by their brother Ehsan in Chak 61-JB, Dharor. The spokesperson said that Ehsan had accused his sisters of having ‘illicit’ relations with men in their locality before gunning them down at their home on Thursday. He said Ehsan took the murder weapon and fled. “We are looking for him.”

Separately, Amin shot his divorced sister-in-law dead in Chak 53-1, Tandlianwala. Police said he had accused her of having ‘loose’ morals before shooting her. He later fled.  In another incident, Hamid Nawaz, a resident of Chak 216-RB, shot his sister Nusrat Bibi dead for demanding her share in the inheritance. Police said they had seized the body and were investigating the case.

In Pakka Sadhar village, Pakpattan, on Wednesday, a man had killed three of his cousins for having ‘loose’ morals and bringing ‘shame’ to their family.

Police said Ramazan Joiya had accused his maternal uncle’s daughters of having illicit relations with some men in the area.

They said Joiya’s sister had tried to stop him from killing their cousins and was injured. Kalyana police said they had registered a case and were looking for Joiya.
