Pakistan opener, Ahmed Shehzad, on Thursday took to twitter to forward his support to the efforts made by Pakistan Cricket Board to hold the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Doha, Qatar.

The 23-year-old was of the opinion that Pakistani cricket fans should start supporting their 'own cricket'.

He admired PCB and former chairman Najam Sethi's move to hold PSL in Qatar.

Shehzad, who is the only Pakistani to score centuries in all formats, said that people who are criticizing the move by PCB by 'digging things deep down' they need to stop 'damaging' Pakistan cricket.

He concluded with the reason that the tournament, the PSL, will help the young cricketers in the country to 'learn a lot' from it.

He further recommended promotion of #PSLwillrock to shush the haters.

Pakistan, despite being one of the first countries to start their own domestic T20 competition, lagged behind in arranging a high-profile T20 league as compared to the ones taking place in India, England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Other players, meanwhile, expressed their delight earlier. Fast-bowler Mohammad Irfan said he was looking forward to the event as he has often turned down offers to play in different T20 leagues around the world.

“I’m yet to play in a T20 league so the PSL is a great sign for Pakistan cricket and cricketers like me,” Irfan told The Express Tribune.

“There have been plenty of offers from different leagues but I’ve so far turned them all down because my focus was to remain fit and serve my country. But now that our own T20 league is about to happen, I can’t describe my excitement in words.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan one-day and T20 vice-captain Sarfraz Ahmed welcomed the decision as well and said it would help bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.

“The PSL will be a huge boost for Pakistan cricket as the players would have a chance to share the dressing room with national and international stars,” said Sarfraz.

“They would get the idea of playing against top players in a pressure environment and it would certainly help improve Pakistan cricket.”

Omar Sadiq | 8 years ago | Reply Even though I support the PCB's idea of holding the PSL, even though it is being held in Doha, my main concern is that this will destroy our Test ranking and mind set to just try and bash every ball out of the ground. Look at India, with their high flying IPL, they are low ranked in the T20 cricket. One would think that with the IPL, India would be on top of the ranking in T20 and ODI but no, they are not! People might say I am bashing India but actually, I am not bashing India but trying to protect the Test cricket (which is the real purist cricket) which Pakistan is almost excelling at. BUT a warning here too....just wait and watch! Once PSL hits the ground and running, the ICC and BCCI (same thing though) will be at PCB's throat and will scrutinize and ban the good performing Pak cricketers.
