We're not ones to dwell over our waste, in fact we don't bother with it at all once it's been flushed away. However, because of this we avoid coming face-to-face with our poo, and this causes us to lose important information about our health, reported Mirror

The shape or structure of your waste and how often you need to go is an indication of your overall health and changes can be the first sign of bowel disease.

The Poo Log, by Josh Richman and Dr Anish Sheth provides a useful guide to what comes from your insides.

It encourages readers to record each bowel movement and rate it on its delivery, size and shape, smell, the number of wipes it took to get rid off and how you feel once it's done.

Dr Linda Thomas, Science Director for Yakult in the UK & Ireland, said: “We are sometimes reluctant to talk about our gut problems. But now we are trying to break down the poo taboo and get people to talk more openly about digestive problems.”
