Caught red-handed: Abbasi Shaheed Hospital official sent on remand by ATC

Anti-terrorism court (ATC) remanded Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) finance director to police custody on Tuesday after his three-month preventive detention expired.


The official was arrested on charges of possessing a large cache of arms and ammunition. Fariduddin, ASH finance director, is associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He was arrested by the Rangers Sachal wing on July 4 and taken into a 90-day detention for his alleged involvement in target killings, extortion and kidnapping.

Securing his remand, the police submitted before ATC-II that a large cache of arms and ammunition including Kalashnikovs and machine guns were recovered from the Khajji ground in Liaquatabad upon the information given by the suspect.

The police also submitted an initial investigation report claiming that the suspect confessed before a joint investigation team to committing 'serious' crimes, such as administering poisonous injections into political rivals.

The suspect also revealed that he secured his job on a fake degree and forged educational certificates. The suspect allegedly also blackmailed the female staff. The police submitted the papers in court to seek remand to recover more evidences and trace the whereabouts of his accomplices. The judge approved the plea and sent the suspect on two-week physical remand.
