The official theatrical trailer of the upcoming film was released online. The opening words from the trailer tell the irony of Manto's life as the narrator puts, "Log kehte hain woh Urdu ka bara adeeb hai. Magar Urdu ussay ab bhi nahi aati."

Director Sarmad Sultan Khoosat can be seen portraying the character of the controversial writer himself.

In the poster of the movie that was earlier released, Mahira Khan was seen in the avatar of a madaran (Monkey Master). However in the trailer she is seen in a different avatar of an ordinary girl. The transition from an ordinary girl to a madaran or vice-versa makes one wonder about her character in the movie.

Sania Saeed can be seen as the wife of Manto.

Saba Qamar, who is playing the role of Noor Jehan depicts the special bond the writer and the legendary singer shared as she says, "Bara kambakht hai yeh Manto. Kissi cheez ka lehaz nahi rakhta. Sab saaf saaf keh deta hai."

Rest of the ensemble cast including Faisal Qureshi, Azfar Rehman, Hina Khawaja Bayat, Nimra Bucha, Nadia Afghan, Irfan Khoosat, Arjumand Rahim and Savera Nadeem are playing the characters of prominent personalities from that era.

It also shows the brazenness and lofty intellectual disdain that Manto possessed as the character delivers these bold lines, "Jab koi kahani mere qalam se nikal jati hai, toh uska chapna lazim ho jata hai" and "Mere pass afsana nigari ka license hai."

The ending of the trailer explores the last days of Manto's life in which he faces charges of obscenity for his controversial work.

The trailer leaves us wanting for more. But the good news is that all the wait will soon be over as Manto is slated to be released on September 11.
