Law and order: Safe City Project of utmost importance, says Shahbaz

LAHORE: Work on the Safe City Project should be completed speedily, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.

He was addressing a meeting held to review progress on the project through video link.

“Modern technology should be used to curb crime. After Lahore, the project will be started in Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala. The project is of great importance for improving law and order,” he said.

The chief minister said that the government had formed the Punjab Safe City Authority to oversee the implementation of the project. “The importance of the Safe City Project has increased in view of the law and order situation. The project should be advanced speedily,” he said.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal and IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera attended the meeting.

Earlier, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had met a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) office bearers in London, UK.“The PML-N government is making all efforts to overcome terrorism and loadshedding. The political and military leadership are on the same page against terrorism,” he said.

He said that the bold decisions by the political and military leadership would eliminate terrorism. “Terrorism and extremism are being eliminated through implementation of the National Action Plan against terrorism,” he said. The chief minister said that indiscriminate action was being taken against terrorists and their facilitators.

“The entire nation stands with the army and law enforcement agencies. Soldiers, policemen, government officials, politicians and citizens have all sacrificed their lives in the war against terrorism,” he said. He said that it was a war for the survival of Pakistan.

The chief minister also took notice of media reports regarding missing facilities at Government Degree College Sargodha. He sought a report from education minister and the Higher Education Department secretary. The chief minister directed the officials to provide transport facility to college students and to take immediate steps to provide electricity and water in the college. The chief minister also sought a report from IGP about a firing incident in a village of Jhelum in which six women were injured. He directed the IGP to arrest the policemen involved in the incident. The chief minister also condemned the firing by Indian forces along the working boundary in Sialkot. The chief minister directed that every possible treatment facilities should be provided to the citizens injured due to Indian firing.
