BAHAWALPUR:

Trees are a gift to mankind and a balancing force of nature, Bahawalpur Division Commissioner Saqib Zafar said at the inauguration of the Monsoon Plantation Campaign at the Bahawal Club in Bahawalpur on Thursday. “It is, therefore, our duty to save the environment by planting trees.”

The commissioner planted a tree at the club. As many as 900,000 trees and plants will be planted in Bahawalpur division as part of the campaign.

Additional District Collector Imrana Ajmal, Forest Conservator Faisal Haroon and Agriculture Executive District Officer Chaudhry Tanveer Ahmad among other officials participated. Zafar told officials to tot up the number of trees in the division. “Keeping a record of this would be a good idea…we also need to pay special attention to watering plants and trees and taking care of the newly planted saplings so that they can grow into healthy trees and make Bahawalpur beautiful.” In a meeting held at the committee room of the Bahawalpur DCO’s office, DCO Engineer Chaudhry Ahmad Basheer said all government departments should participate in the plantation campaign. “Bahawalpur has always been associated with gardens and roses.” Several government departments were set targets for the plantation campaigns.
