KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued on Tuesday a notice to the Rangers prosecutor for his comments on the application of detained Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Qamar Mansoor seeking medical treatment.

Mansoor, through his counsel, had moved an application to the ATC-II seeking medical treatment at a private hospital and constitution of a medical board to examine him. He complained of severe backbone pain and submitted that a private consultant had recommended physiotherapy sessions for him. Taking cognisance of the application, the judge issued a notice to the lawyer tasked by the Rangers to prosecute the case, seeking his reply and arguments on the plea on August 27. Mansoor has been in Rangers' custody for three months.

He was picked up in the second swoop on MQM headquarters Nine Zero on July 17. The paramilitary force claims to have credible information about the suspect's alleged involvement in target killings and other terrorism acts.
