Fraud: Comments sought on bank’s frozen account

Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the federal government on Monday to submit a reply by September 7 explaining why a bank had frozen a citizen’s account.

The judge expressed displeasure with FIA Director Usman Anwar and investigation officers’ absence from the court. Petitioner Rana Zaheer told the court that the manager of a bank in Multan had defrauded many people. Advocate Azhar Siddique, counsel for Zaheer, told the court that the Federal Investigation Agency had later arrested his client. “The LHC had ordered his release. It also asked my client to pay Rs28.8 million,” he said. Still, he said, the bank had frozen Zaheer’s account. He requested the court to release the account.
