PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to renovate and revamp four major teaching hospitals of the province.

This was decided during a meeting chaired by Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai on Monday.

Around Rs1.7 billion has been set aside for the repair of Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex in the city and Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad.

On the other hand, Rs0.7 billion has already been released to these health facilities and extracted from the current fiscal year’s kitty.

Shahram directed all officials concerned to expedite work and focus on cleanliness. He said service delivery is of prime importance and will not be compromised. “Hospitals with unhygienic environments harbour diseases themselves,” Shahram added.

He directed officials to sit with boards of governors of the aforementioned hospitals and prepare comprehensive strategies for their upkeep.
