Nick of time: Terror bid foiled, explosives seized

The suspect was shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation

The Special Police Unit foiled a terrorism bid in the city on Friday and arrested a suspect identified as Wahidullah alias Abu Bakr. The man is a resident of Haji Camp, Orakzai Agency. An 11-kilogramme improvised explosive device concealed in a water cooler was also recovered from his possession.

During interrogation, the suspect told the police he was involved in six attacks on security forces in Tirah, Khyber Agency in which 42 officials were killed. He also admitted to his involvement in various target killings including the murders of SP (retd) Hayat Khan in Hayatabad, IB assistant director Muhammad Mujahid in Gulbahar, former IB Director Muhammad Arif Jan in Kabuli, IB inspector Syed Mazhar Ali in Shah Qabool and FC official Nasrullah in Shabqadar.


Similarly, he was allegedly involved in several kidnapping for ransom cases in the city.

Abu Bakr is said to be affiliated with an international terrorist group. The suspect was shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.
