Graft charges: ASI dismissed

ISLAMABAD:
An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) was dismissed from service on Thursday after charges of taking bribe while on duty were proved against him.
Four others were awarded punishment of one year forfeiture of service over negligence during duty, said a press release.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Malik Matloob Ahmad dismissed ASI Younus after he was declared guilty by committee constituted to probe the matter.
The allegations were levelled against the official on social media following which the committee was constituted.
The SSP, in his statement, said ITP is an ISO certified organisation and there was no place for corrupt officials. He said all efforts would be made to make ITP corruption free.
Sources in the traffic police said one reason of corruption was failure of interior ministry to give back 25 per cent share of total amount generated through fines for year 2012-13 to the officials.
The ITP has submitted around Rs250 million to the ministry in first week of the current year, yet it has been deprived of its due share, the official said.
